How do we harm ourselves when looking for work

Many applicants put their own wheels in the wheel. But we are human, and we tend to make mistakes. There is nothing terrible in this, the main thing is to find your mistakes, learn and try to correct them.

Admitting your mistake is the first step towards correcting it. However, people are reluctant to admit they are wrong, convincing themselves otherwise. Determining your mistake and admit it is still that psychological test. Work.ua prepared 3 common mistakes that applicants make, but often cannot recognize, and ways to solve these problems.
Lack of perseverance

In other words, you are unable to focus on a specific task. You just sat down at a computer to analyze and improve your resume, but suddenly you decided to check for updates on social networks, remembered that you hadn’t checked your mail for 10 minutes, suddenly you were interested in the latest world news, were you thirsty to see funny pictures and videos? And now 2 hours have passed, and you still have not started the main task. Don’t worry, this happens to the best of us.

Some people work better under pressure, and having freedom of action, they can’t fully begin anything. Putting things off, we always convince ourselves that there is still plenty of time and everything will be sure to succeed. But alas, this is not so. And even more so, it is not so in job search.

How to fix it: First of all, treat job search as a job. Each task requires timely completion. In order not to be distracted during their execution, take it as a rule and plan breaks for rest. For example, you work for 40 minutes, and then relax for 20 minutes. This may well be enough to make yourself a cup of tea, read the news and spread a few words with your friends on social networks. And after this time, get back to work again, the break was rather big, so there can be no excuses. Such breaks will help you relax, quench your thirst for idleness and will allow you to perform important tasks with a greater concentration of attention, and therefore with greater efficiency.
Lack of self confidence

Of course, you should not be limitlessly narcissistic, you should simply believe in yourself. We often think that we are not good enough for something that we lack in knowledge or vitality. This forces us to agree to any proposed job, to look for lower positions that do not correspond to our ambitions, because of which we cannot get any pleasure from the work. If you don’t believe in yourself, how can an employer believe in you?

How to fix it: Make a list of your skills and strengths, analyze it. Also make a list of the responsibilities that you performed before, write down your hobbies and just the things you are good at. If you look closely, not so little you know how, right? The main thing is not to forget about it. And do not forget that you can and should expand this list - a person studies not only at school and university, he studies throughout his life. Also, this list will allow you to stay more confident in interviews.
Games with fire

Did a friend tag you in a compromising photo on a social network? It is fun and funny, but not very suitable, for example, to a responsible sales manager. You know this, but do not take any measures, considering that it is solely your personal life, or that the employer simply will not look for such information. Maybe you are right and there will be no negative consequences, but who knows for sure? Maybe if you removed the mark from the photo you would receive ten job offers, and not one. Alas, social networks can complicate the employment process, but this point is not only about them. Any flaw that may have negative consequences, but which for some reason you do not want to fix, is a game with fire.

How to fix it: First you need to accept that some of your actions and inactions can have a negative color in the eyes of the employer. It doesn’t matter if you agree or disagree. If you really want to get a job, you will have to step through yourself, at least for the period of the search. Even the smallest detail can ruin everything, and this is the time when you should not risk it. The resume contains irrelevant contacts of people who can give you recommendations? You can hope that no one will call them, but what if? It is unlikely that someone will trust you if the phone says “This number is disabled” instead of recommendations.
